Description of the study
You are being invited to take part in this research project. Before you decide to do so, it is important you understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take the time to read the following information carefully if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information you can contact the research lead [listed below].
What is the purpose of this research?
This research project will gather insight into the use of social media platforms on mobile devices by aiming to identify a correlation between the time spent using social networking platforms and the formation of habits in actions associated with mobile device use.
Explanation of what participation entails
Your participation will consist of the completion of an online survey consisting of a number of questions which will require you to select from a range of possible answers. It should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete the survey.
The benefits and risks associated with participation
The results from the study will help develop a greater understanding of how the growing use of social networking influences the way in which we use mobile devices and may inform the design of future mobile software to improve the user experience.
How do I withdraw
Your participation in this research is entirely voluntary and you are free to withdraw at any time during the completion of the survey without explanation. Data is only stored on completion of the survey.
Confidentiality/anonymity and data security
All research data will be stored anonymously. We will not record any identifiable information. The data we collect will be stored securely. Only members of the research team will have access to this data. Data will be stored as per University policy and all data gathered will be retained for no more than 10 years after publication. Any direct communication with participants will be stored separately to research data and will be deleted on completion of the study.
How will the result be disseminated
This research may also be published in academic journal papers and/or presented at national and international academic conferences and events. No identifiable information regarding individual participants will be included in any publication.
